About the GLBI Simulator
This simulator calculates Guaranteed Livable Basic Income (GLBI) benefits based on the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) report from February 2025. The GLBI is a proposed universal income program designed to ensure all Canadians have a basic level of income security.
How It Works
- Base Amount: Every eligible Canadian receives a base GLBI amount based on household type and federal rates.
- Income Reduction: As you earn income, the GLBI payment is reduced by a percentage (the reduction rate). Three scenarios are modeled: 50%, 25%, and 15%.
- Disability Amount: An additional amount for people with disabilities that is NOT clawed back based on earned income.
- Provincial Comparison: See how GLBI compares to current provincial and federal assistance programs and tax credits.
Reduction Rate Scenarios
- 50% Reduction: For every dollar earned, GLBI is reduced by 50 cents
- 25% Reduction: For every dollar earned, GLBI is reduced by 25 cents
- 15% Reduction: For every dollar earned, GLBI is reduced by 15 cents
